Plastic Partitions: corrugated and solid materials
Returnable Packaging made from plastic corrugated partitions could be considered a "staple" in some industries, namely automotive. But most companies don't realize all the things you can do with plastic corrugated or corrugated plastic as it is commonly referred. For example, plastic corrugated partitions can be made with a thin piece of plastic threaded through the inner "flutes" which is called rod locking and it allows the plastic corrugated partition to collapse or accordian but it prevents the individual pieces of corrugated plastic from falling apart. One of the biggest headaches for users of paper corrugated partitions is keeping the thing together.
It is also possible to take a plastic corrugated partition and fuse a corrugated plastic pad to the bottom of it. Since the corrugated plastic partition and the corrugated plastic pad are made from the same material, one can be joined with the other. This creates an actual cell, so individual parts stay in a confined area. Otherwise, as is the case when using paper corrugated, the partition and pad need to be separate. In busy manufacturing plants having less packaging to worry about is always better.
Plastic corrugated can be lined with spunbond, which is a non abrasive fabric and also cross link foam to protect critical finishes. Corrugated plastic partitions coated with spunbond is the cheaper alternative, but when the best protection is needed plastic corrugated partitions lined with cross link foam cannot be beat. |
